Biography:
Jamela A. Ali, Attorney at Law, LL.B. (Hons.) (UWI) and LL.M. in Legislative Drafting from the University of the West Indies, Barbados which included Public Law courses of Constitutional Law and Administrative Law.
Admitted to practice in Guyana on the 12th October 1989.
Ms. Jamela A. Ali specialises in several areas of Guyana law in the civil jurisdiction.
Ms. Jamela A. Ali commenced her legal career by working as a State Counsel and other positions at the Attorney General’s Chambers in Guyana.
Ms. Jamela A. Ali is presently in private practice providing legal services as an Attorney at Law at the Guyana Law Firm of Mr. Rex H. Mc Kay, S.C.
Her clients include a diverse group of Guyanese in Guyana, the Caribbean and further afield, foreigners and Guyana as well as international Companies.
Ms. Jamela A. Ali has written on Constitutional law, Legislative Drafting, Duty to Give Reasons, Law Revision, Legal Practitioners Committee (LPC), Adoption and other legal matters, which have been published in the New Guyana Bar Review, the Caribbean Law Review, the Guyana Chronicle and Stabroek News newspapers. She has also delivered speeches on Constitutional Law Reform, Legislative Drafting and Mediation.
Ms. Jamela A. Ali is a Mediator, a Mediation Trainer and a Faculty Member. She provides mediation services.
Ms. Jamela A. Ali is an Executive Committee Member of the Guyana Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL) and a Member of the Guyana Bar Association (GBA). She is also a legal consultant to the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) and Nacosa providing voluntary legal services.
She also served as an Executive Committee Member of the GBA, Member of the Adoption of Children Board, National Commission for the Survival, Protection and Development of Children, Guyana Gold Board and was the Chairperson of the Public Service Union Sports Management Committee.
